PostDoc position in cosmochemisty:

Using noble gases and radionuclides to study the constancy of the galactic cosmic-rays

The Planetology Group of the University of Bern invites applications for a Postdoctoral fellowship in the field of cosmogenic nuclides in meteorites and the constancy of the galactic cosmic-rays. Candidates should have recently completed their Ph.D. in the field of Physics, Earth Sciences, or in a field relevant for such studies.

The noble gas group works not only on a better understanding of early solar system processes and timescales but also on improving our knowledge about the dynamics of small bodies in the solar system. For the latter, we start studying the constancy of the galactic cosmic-rays using stable and radioactive cosmogenic nuclides in stony and iron meteorites.  Therefore, the successful applicant will not only measure noble gases in our well established and well equipped noble gas laboratory, he/she should also extend the database to 10Be, 26Al and, 36Cl (measured via AMS), a procedure that has to be developed in our group and that requires some chemical skills.

The principal selection criteria for this PostDoc position are scientific excellence and a clearly expressed plan to investigate problems at the forefront of planetary science. The successful applicant should be highly motivated; strong technical and communication skills are essential.

The position is available from Mai 1st 2012 and last for 2 years. An extension is possible. The application deadline is March 15., but the search will be open until the position is filled. Salary is according to the Swiss National Science Foundation.

Applicants should send a letter of application, a CV, a publication list, and contact information of at least two references to:
